BTF National Training & Grading in Newbridge, March 2026
Training
On Saturday 14th March, over 60 students and instructors attended the British Taekwon-Do Federation National Training in Newbridge, Wales. The event was hosted by Mr John Tovey V Dan of Taekwon-Do ARC Wales and conducted by BTF President, Grand Master Wayne Brown IX.
The day began with technical work focusing on fundamental movements and Patterns, giving members from a range of grades the opportunity to refine their accuracy, timing, and understanding of Taekwon-Do principles. Throughout the session, Grand Master Brown placed emphasis on correct mechanics, clear execution of techniques, and the importance of strong basics as the foundation for all other aspects of training.
Students had the opportunity to take part in a dedicated hosin sul session led by Mr Timothy Walker V Dan, giving attendees the chance to explore practical self-defence concepts in a structured and progressive way. This section of the training encouraged students to consider awareness, reaction, and appropriate application of techniques in close-range situations.
Sparring development was further supported by Miss Danielle Williams V Dan, who provided guidance on movement, distance management and ringcraft in ITF Taekwon-Do. Students were encouraged to apply what they had covered earlier in the day, linking solid fundamentals to confident, controlled sparring.
The atmosphere throughout the seminar was positive, disciplined, and collaborative, with instructors and students sharing ideas and supporting each other’s development. The British Taekwon-Do Federation would like to thank Grand Master Brown for delivering another high-quality national training, Mr Tovey and Taekwon-Do ARC Wales for hosting, and all who attended for their effort and contribution to a successful day.
The next National Training will be on Sunday 12th July in Nuneaton.
